Peter C. Petersen papers, 1916-1996.

Papers of Peter "Pete" Petersen, a lifelong resident of Davenport, Iowa, an expert on birds of the Quad Cities region. Petersen was extremely active in the ornithology community, taking leadership roles in organizations such as the Audubon Society, the Illinois Bird Banding Association, and the Iowa Ornithologists' Union, and keeping detailed records of his bird watching and bird banding activities. Petersen acted as compiler for annual Christmas Counts in the Quad Cities area, and he was noted for his work with bald eagles. The collection includes records of his work with birding and ornithological organizations; manuscripts of publications written by Petersen and working papers from conservation projects he took part in; bird watching and bird banding records, including field checklists; Christmas Count and eagle documentation; as well as some clippings and other published materials. Petersen's close working relationship with noted Quad Cities ornithologist Elton Fawkes is also documented in the collection.
